Envision the scene:
I’m in Marshall’s looking for nothing in particular. I walk up and down every aisle, slowly enough to take it all in but not actually touching anything unless it speaks to me. The aisle ends are overflowing with miscellaneous items, most on clearance. I pass by an aisle end, stop, and come back. Something catches my eye. Wait — could it be?? It is!!!! GEOMETRIC CONTACT PAPER!!!! I need to buy it. But why do I need to buy it? I think for a moment…
Oh, I know! I can cover my ugly fridge with it!
Fast forward to this past weekend. I’m on the kitchen floor surrounded by contact paper bits and cursing Marshall’s for holding the key to my heart. And maybe just cursing in general. BUT! I covered my fridge and it looks pretty neat. Just a few supplies and you can have a cool fridge like this, too.
SUPPLIES:
- Contact Paper
- Tape Measure
- Scissors
- Box Cutter
I followed the directions on the package and did the fridge in sections, making sure to line up the pattern the best I could. (Note to self: Cell phones don’t take the same quality of photo as a camera.)
After about 90 minutes of measuring and mumbling, I took my refrigerator from this:
(Ironic tourist magnet collection not included.)
I’m pretty excited about how it turned out. So much that I might even attempt to cover my 70’s trash compactor and 80’s dishwasher this weekend! If I do I’ll be sure to let you know.
Confession: I thought you were insane for covering your fridge in contact paper, but it looks AMAZING! Holy wow, what a difference! I love the pattern & I can’t believe how great it turned out. Clear, you are a smart (and patient) lady!
Sarah
Your confession made me totes LOLZ :)
So much easier than painting it. Nice work!
Thank you so much!
What a great idea and such a simple way to upgrade your fridge!
Thanks! :D
That’s the prettiest fridge I’ve ever seen. Ever.
Yay! Thank you thank you!
It is truly beautiful….I love it…what a great idea!
Thanks so much!!
Love the paper you used. It turned out nicely. One of my upcoming projects is to pain the front of my fridge with chalkboard paint.
Oooohhhhh… I can’t wait to see how it turns out!! :D
Looking great! Now all I can think is where can I find shiny glossy red paper…for me…
Oh, YES! Please search for it on the interwebz, cover your fridge, then show me pictures!
That looks amazing! I think I may have to do this.
Thank you! I hope you try it!
SO creative it looks great!
Thanks so much!
Oh gosh…I love this! Your fridge turned out awesome! What a great and inexpensive way to update appliances.
Thanks so much!
Did you have to run it past your landlord first or will it come off and leave no trace of itself?
Yes I’m wondering the same! I’ve never used contact paper and would like to use it around the apartment for some projects but was wondering how it is to remove and if it leaves any residue or pulls on the paint?
Unless the surface is something like a fridge, I would keep the contact paper off the walls. There are some great temporary wallpapers available that are made for walls and painted surfaces that wouldn’t leave a residue behind on those.
This one I didn’t have to ask permission about. Hooray! The contact paper will pull right off the smooth appliance and, if there is any residue left behind (unlikely), a simple home surface cleaner should do the trick!
Wow..That is so awesome and inexpensive! Your fridge is so cute:)
Thank you!!
So cute! Love the basket on top too. Do you mind sharing where you found that? thanks!
Thanks, Clara! The basket is from Crate & Barrel. They don’t carry the exact one anymore but the Sedona Low Open Tote is similar.
