Today I am going to attempt to make sense for a minute so you can hang things on your walls just like I did. Since we have so much art and photography we want to display, we really have no choice but to choose our biggest wall and cover it entirely. This is what we did in our previous apartment:
I couldn’t decide where to put anything and it was a BIG wall, so I forced The Scientist to cut out a placeholder from newspaper for everything we wanted to put up. Then I moved them all around using painter’s tape. VERY IMPORTANT: Only hang these with painter’s tape. Any other kind of tape — even Scotch tape — could and likely will make marks on your wall. Once you have everything where you like it, just hammer a nail right into the newspaper and then tear it off. Magic! (For a MUCH better tutorial than mine please visit the Young House Love cuties here and here.) Then put up your frames and it will look like this:
Or like this, if you put on your hipster glasses:
The apartment we had before that one had a long hallway by the front door, so that’s where we hung most of our stuff that time. It looked like this:
The fur-baby was not part of the permanent gallery.
I realize these images aren’t particularly inspiring due to my poor photography skillz and serious lack of a decent camera (at the time — now I have no excuse), so tomorrow I will show you many lovely examples of other gallery walls that you will certainly enjoy!
i’ve never used painter’s tape trick - good idea!
Painter’s tape is a very good friend of mine. He does many things for me.
Magic!
So many magic tricks!
this is soooooo sooooo soooooo awesome!! I have been planning one for a while and I have been collecting things for it. I am going to pin this as inspiration!
I’m so happy to inspire you! Yay!
Wow! Looks fantastic. Those kind of gallery walls are so difficult to get just right. I love your mock-up idea - looks like it would help loads. Thanks. -Rene
Thank you! :D
