{Before + After} Kitchen Cabinet Makeover

The kitchen cabinets are DONE and I. LOVE. THEM.

This is what my kitchen looked like before…

This is what it looked like after I painted the walls with black chalkboard paint…

This is what it looked like during my renovation-related nervous breakdown

And here’s where we are now!

Sooooooooo??? What do you think?! I love the way the “pantry” cupboard turned out! The mason jars are SO CUTE and now we can see everything we have! I always felt I was buying doubles of things and then not buying things I was actually running out of. A problem of the past! I chose Ball brand mason jars because I wanted silver lids, since the handles of all the remaining doors and drawers in the kitchen are silver.

Our dishes look SO GOOD against the mint! Our dishware is the Madison collection from Crate & Barrel and the glassware is a mix of stuff from CB2 and Crate & Barrel.

And then, of course, we have what I’m already calling the Morning Beverage Center — strategically placed above the coffeemaker. Natch.

I’m totally in love!!! The weekend stress was absolutely worth it. And I think the black, white, and mint color palette is fresh and modern! What do you think???

It looks fabulous! Now what do you do with all your kitchen stuff you don’t want people to see! And where do you keep your hidden stash of chocolate if there are no cupboard doors!

Hooray! I’m so glad you like it!

I left the doors on all the upper cabinets on the other side of the kitchen, so that’s where less attractive things live. Like The Scientist’s ever-growing collection of free/ugly water bottles. Those are good for filling with water and then giving away to homeless people though, so I don’t complain too much about them :)

And chocolate should always be on display. Always.

AWESOME! Chalkboard paint! I’m envious! The mint is very refreshing. You’ll be dusting like crazy as I do with our open cabinetry. :) Things also get a little sticky from the cooking, so please be wipe down the bottoms of your cabinets. But you prob. all ready knew that. :)

Love this! I could never pull this off. I have so many fugly glasses and annoying Disneyfied logo character cups that are in my cupboards that I tried, it just would not be happening. I will live vicariously through your awesome cupboards!

I’m so happy you love it! Things that come along with children aren’t always best for your decor. Someday, when I get one of those baby people, I think I will build a small area in the closet for it to live. That’s realistic, right?

Looks gorgeous; fresh and modern, yep! I love the mint paint with it, it changes the atmosphere of the kitchen into a «smoothier » place than a cold basic B&W _ which I like too_ Magnifique Madame ! Bravo!

I’m so happy you like watching me go bananas whilst decorating! And that you like my kitchen as much as I do! It was really so blah before. I had no choice but to change everything! Thanks for reading!

It looks great! I love the color you chose for the cabinets. I wish we hadn’t been constantly thinking we were close to moving over the past year, then I could have done something fantastic like this (though probably not as nice!). Side note: please tell me you use that gorgeous knife on that slate, my heart can’t take it.

You make me want to go buy mason jars! Oh and paint something in mint. I love how it turned out – sooo much better than the fishies. But seriously, that outlet cover under the cabinets needs to be switched out (or painted ASAP). Want to come help me pour dry goods into mason jars? I’m sure Penelope would be as excited as your fur-babies about the activity!

    1. Apartment Envy says:

Um, DUH I want to pour stuff in mason jars with how? How are we not friends in real life yet?

I totally agree about the switch plates. Don’t worry — I have a plan for them! ;)

And mint is literally my new favorite color. I just bought a t-shirt that matches my cabinets. I have a problem.

And when I say “pour stuff in mason jars with how?” I really mean “pour stuff in mason jars with you!”

Friends don’t let friends comment while lying in bed and passing out from getting so much blood drawn.

        TMI?

That. Is. Amazing. The mint against the black and white is fantastic!!

We are trying to make decisions about our own kitchen design, and I am SO drawn to open shelving. But I’m also trying to make decisions that are practical and not create more cleaning tasks. Yours are kind of a compromise… open, but not totally open.

    Looks great!

    1. Apartment Envy says:

Yay! Thank you so much! :D

I really like having some open shelving and some closed cabinetry. I think it’s nice to mix things up a bit! And I LOVE having all my dishes/glasses handy. It’s awesome.
