{Favorite Things} Nan Lawson

Nan Lawson Game of Thrones Drawing

Last night I was attempting to plan my honeymoon and started to get stressed out. (No, I’m not getting a new husband. I love the one I have. We just moved to the East Coast immediately after our wedding which halted any and all honeymoon plans we had in the works. Almost two years later, we’re finally trying to do something about it.) Whenever I get stressed out I do one of two things — sometimes both, depending on how bad the situation is:

  1. Eat a cupcake
  2. Browse Etsy

Since it was late and Sprinkles still hasn’t installed their cupcake vending machine (this will be life-altering), I decided to e-browse my favorite shops. Naturally, I started with Nan Lawson’s shop, as she is the mastermind behind my little family portrait. She is the ultimate hipster artist and possibly my soul-twin, choosing all of my most favorite things as subject matter: The Royal Tenenbaums, Downton Abbey, Parks & Recreation, Pride & Prejudice, and the list goes on!

I cannot even begin to express my level of excitement when I saw what Nan had recently added to her shop!

Nan Lawson Game of Thrones DrawingYes, that’s a Game of Thrones scene, people. Nan Lawson is truly a woman after my own heart. Just when I thought she couldn’t get any more fantastic…

If you haven’t already, you should definitely check out her shop! Her prices are VERY reasonable and she prints all her original drawings in standard frame sizes, so it’s very easy (and inexpensive!) to get a custom frame look with a store-bought frame and mat and make her pieces truly stand out in your home!

I think those are very reasonable strategies to deal with being stressed out. I usually just take a nap. Not nearly as productive (and perhaps the reason I still haven’t finished my dissertation).

I love Nan’s art! I especially love her “This Too Shall Pass” print, although I do add “like a kidney stone” in my head. Not that I’ve ever had kidney stones (although of these things are genetic, apparently it’s just a matter of time with my mom and both her sibs having them). Was that TMI? Anywhoo… Seeing that sign made me crack up and feel less annoyed about the work that I have to deal with.

I seem to have inadvertently left napping off my list of coping strategies, likely due to the fact that it happens so frequently I don’t even think about it. Bad thing? Probably.

If you ever need advice on how not to finish your dissertation, my husband can give you some pointers. After manymanymany long years he finally managed to get a PhD in what I like to refer to as… Clouds.

And congratulations! You’re officially the first person ever to detail your personal family history with kidney stones in another person’s blog comment section! Snaps to you! I love it.

Napping is never a bad thing. But perhaps you shouldn’t trust my opinion on that, as we’ve already established that I nap too much. I’ll let you know if I need some advice on how to NOT finish the diss, so far so good on that front (unfortunately). And I KNEW kidney stones was TMI. Oh well. What’s a little medical history between blog friends?
